Life Coaching is a relatively new profession that began developing in the late 1990's. I have formally been involved with providing Life Coaching since 2003. Life Coaching is not Psychological Counseling and is not currently regulated by any licensing board in the 50 states and is considered a separate professional discipline from Psychology or Counseling. No diagnosis is given and the person is not seen as having an illness. It is a professional mentoring relationship where the individual is seen as a person capable of assessing where they are currently as an individual and as a result of an interactive mentoring relationship to make the best choices and decisions for their own future. People who have entered the field of Life Coaching often come from a variety of different disciplines and skill sets including education, business, social sciences, human resources, and clergy/spiritual practitioners providing spiritual direction or mentoring. Life Coaching is an interactive process that helps individuals to become more effective in obtaining goals. Life Coaches, among a variety of other areas, may work with individuals on career development, interpersonal relationships, work relationships, or making decisions that would assist them in toward more positive habits supporting well being physically, personally, mentally, relationally, or spiritually. Life Coaching may not be appropriate for the services you are seeking. However, Life Coaching is another alternative for people who do not have a diagnosed mental health or psychological condition and do not want to be given a psychological diagnosis but are just seeking to explore making more effective decisions in their life. Professional coaches are trained to listen and observe, to customize their approach to the individual's needs, and to elicit solutions and strategies together with the client. They believe that the client is naturally creative and resourceful and that the coach's job is to provide support to enhance the skills, resources, and creativity that the individual already has. While the coach provides feedback and an objective perspective, the individual is responsible for taking the steps to produce the results he or she desires.
Life Coaching is usually provided through online sessions through Skype; however, in-person Life Coaching sessions can also be scheduled out of the Dublin, Ohio office; however, most clients that I work prefer to attend sessions through Skype. I can provide Life Coaching services to anyone throughout the United States. The cost of Individual Life Coaching sessions is $90.
An online Life Coaching Group program EMAP (Envisioned Maximized Achieved Performance) is also available. Each group is scheduled once enough people have signed up for a group. The EMAP group meets online every other week (an hour each time) and the maximum number of participants allowed in each group is 10 people who will meet for 10 sessions connecting through online Video Conferencing software (as determined by Dr. Schulz once a group is formed). The software used will allow each person within the group to interact with other members in the group. The group focuses on helping individuals in setting goals for their life (mentally, physically, relationally, and occupationally) and helping one another in developing a plan toward obtaining those goals. Dr, Schulz uses his over 35+ years experience of working with people to assist participants to develop their own personalized plan for achieving success. In addition to Dr. Schulz teaching participants specific skills and principles related to achieving success, Dr. Schulz uses the group process to help individuals to collaborate with one another through shared learning and encouragement. The group process involves a synergetic effect of learning that can often be more powerful than individual coaching sessions because it is drawing not only from the experience of an experienced facilitator but is also involving the additional learning from each of the life experiences of participants in the group. Reading, listening to audio, or watching videos are certainly an important process in educating ourselves on topics of improvement; however, it is often not enough to keep us motivated and growing toward greater success. The group process under Dr. Schulz's facilitation provides you an opportunity to take past learning you already have, use new learning received, and provide opportunities to practice what you learn between sessions. Dr. Schulz will provide educational information from psychological, behavioral, and motivational theory and apply it to help participants in increasing their understanding of a variety of positive habits related to successfully meeting goals. He includes among other topics: the use of positive intent and focus, the power of belief, the law of attraction, the law of right action, effective time management skills, and effective relationship skills designed for greater interpersonal and work/business success. The group is open to anyone across the United States (times and dates of each group are determined as a group is formed) and the cost of the group is $300 for the 10 sessions.
