Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Deficit Disorder (ADHD)

Often, physicians give a diagnosis of ADHD without looking at other factors that may be causing symptoms which mimic symptoms of ADHD.  Certainly, factors such as lack of sleep, anxiety, depression, poor diet and nutrition, and just general stress can cause symptoms resulting in behavioral problems and difficulties with focus and attention or other symptoms associated with ADHD.  Before prescribing medication for ADHD it is important to address other conditions that might otherwise explain those symptoms.  Psychotherapy and counseling can help assess issues with behavioral problems, anxiety, or depression if that is the underlying cause of symptoms rather than ADHD and a trained psychologist can be used to determine a diagnosis of ADHD and also treat ADHD.  Other non-pharmacological approaches can be considered as a potential way to improve focus and attention for example, EEG biofeedback, Mindfulness Training, Meditation, Yoga, Acupuncture, or energy work.  As with anything you would try, do your own research and be aware of any of the pros and cons and potential adverse reactions associated with the usage of alternative and natural approaches.  The information included here is for educational purposes only and is not meant as a recommendation for treatment or intervention.  http://emapdrschulz.com
