The dangers associated with prescription drugs are often under estimated. The following URL is an article discussing some of the dangers associated with the use/misuse of pharmaceuticals. I believe it is a personal choice whether one chooses to use pharmaceuticals or other methods of treatment. In my practice I respect your choice and I will work with you either way. However, my bias is that as mental health professionals we too often suggest using medication when other means of treatment are also as effective or more effective than the use of medications. Too many times pharmaceutical companies through their advertisements on television and elsewhere attempt to influence consumers that medication is always the best choice for treatment even though other forms of effective treatment are available without the dangerous side affects associated with medication. Psychologists do not prescribe medications; however, medications can be prescribed through your primary care physician or a Psychiatrist.
