Relationships require commitment, work, and effective conflict resolution communication skills

There is no relationship that is perfect. In any long-term relationship, there is an ebb and flow of connection or disconnection.  Because of changes in life circumstances, previously unknown aspects about one’s self or the other, or a specific issue happening in the present – a variety of circumstances can result in stress and distance within a relationship.  As couples try to manage these issues criticism and defensiveness may emerge resulting in resentment and furthering of emotional distance.  Recognize that challenges occur in every relationship. How we communicate to one another during those times about those issues has a huge impact on resolving those issues versus causing further division and emotional disconnect.  Some therapists work on mediating issues for couples, which is important; however, what is even more important is that the couple should be given increased knowledge and skills about how to more effectively communicate when in conflict so as in the future to be better able to handle other stressors that might arise in the relationship without needing the intervention of a therapist.  http://emapdrschulz.com
